Contributing @southeastlondonblog art correspondent @nickrichardsart went to see ‘Reframed: The Woman in the Window’ exhibition at Dulwich Picture Gallery @dulwichgallery his review is here: ‘This exhibition explores the title’s theme in a multitude of ways to fascinating effect. Including such famous names as Rembrandt (the gallery’s own ‘Girl at a Window’ inspired the exhibition), Botticelli, Picasso & Hockney alongside lesser known artists, it covers over a thousand years & various cultures to examine its symbolic meanings. We discover that the artistic depiction of a woman at a window can range from religious icon to intimate domesticity to sexual availability & is rarely, if ever, merely a pictorial effect. There is always a narrative, whether the window is a distancing device, a trompe l’oeil effect or a frame in which the woman is voyeuristically displayed as if for sale. I recently spoke to Moira Tate Festival Director of the @BrockleyMax Festival who are launching their opening night this Friday 27 May in Brockley, with six live music acts. The festival runs until 4 June. There are over 75 events this year, art exhibitions, art and music trail, comedy, theatre, bands and much much more. See you at the opening night! Find out how you can get involved. #BrockleyMaxFestival #southeastlondon #volunteering I do love a ‘Miss Espresso’ in a cushdy leather chair-filled drawing room in London @brix_ldn #saturday #southeastlondon #dontmindifido Every piece tells a story. Every story has a song. This week’s local art hop, skip and a jump was over to @corvimora gallery in #kennington to see @jemperucchini and others. Jem’s work explores #chess ♟ and it’s ‘magnetic - and at times unsettling - hold on many artists and literary figures.’ It’s a captivating and engaging exhibition in that the work for me felt in a sense, pictorial of more historical times, and the way artists would expertly capture everyday moments and the social activities that we, as humans engage in. If you are interested in Jem’s work, I recommend that you check out @corvimora website for the full collection synopsis (credit to the copy above). I’m afraid I do not have the details of the other artist’s work, I have reached out to the gallery for this. This is Jem’s first solo exhibition #southeastlondon #jemperruchini #londonart #supportartists What I loved the most about this experience, rapping the front door knocker to be let in…. Simple things Take me to a bar and I’ll find the art or just be Shazamming the music, 🎶 🖼 I can get annoying! A nice collection of work by @leekaybarry on show @frevdbarlondon #supportingartists Getting our #shumai on @sushigarden_london #sushi #selondon #keepitlocal Overly excited to dig into this creamy #carbonara from @gustosissimashopuk Genuinely delicious homemade Italian food made locally in #foresthill #selondon All food is prepared with fresh, gluten free ingredients and free range meat. A collection of powerful and peaceful pieces with a rose 🌹 being a common thread throughout, an acknowledgment of how beauty can shine through even in the most challenging places, echoing the sentiments within the poem written by #Tupac #therosethatgrewfromconcrete 🌹 #art
