Ovalhouse Presents Unique #BrixtonCity 11th – 14th August

We love to hear about community initiatives so when details of Ovalhouse’s #BrixtonCity Festival dropped into our inbox we just had to share the news with you.

Ovalhouse, a lively theatre and arts centre on the Kennington Oval, presents Brixton City Festival from 11th – 14th August, a celebration of Brixton with new artist commissions showcasing exciting performers.  This is Brixton at its finest, showcasing artists who represent real Brixton; raw vibrant Brixton.  Over the four-day festival, audiences will enjoy unique theatrical experiences in everyday locations transformed into live performances to stumble across.

Here’s the line up:

Thursday 11th August 3pm & 6pm, Brixton Village; in circus-sitcom PUB, the landlord and landlady of a failing old fashioned boozer have a big decision to make: go hipster or go hungry – I know what we’d do…  Watch out for the acrobats and flying balls.  By Molly Orange Street Theatre @MollyOrangeST

Friday 12th August 9pm, Windrush Square; see the iconic Lara Lee perform live music theatre in front of the iconic Bovril advert wall.  I saw Lara Lee perform at last year’s Brixton TedX, she is brilliant.  Say hi on Twitter @LaraLeeOfficial and why not check out her website here.

Sunday 14 Aug 5:30pm, Windrush Square: Round & Round by Marawa’s Majorettes, World Record Holders.

This looks amazing!  Dancehall meets reggae, a dazzling hula hoop display with LED hoops and fast paced moves on roller skates, followed by a flash mob from Brixton village to Windrush Square.  Head to Windrush and have a go at hula-hooping yourself. By Marawa’s Majorettes  @marawamazing @themajorettes
