Toe-tap, knee-slap: Maverick

Maverick festival is a bitter-sweet combination of Americana and Bluegrass music, mouth-watering food, smooth southern cocktails, beer on tap, farm animals, and cowboy hats.

‘The best in roots music from both sides of the Atlantic’……

Based at East Farm Park in the rolling green hills of Suffolk, this cosy music festival provides the perfect balance for a weekend away with the family.

Maverick is the ideal platform to get immersed in the Americana music scene.  Whether knee-slapping toe-tapping Bluegrass or rugged country blues Americana is your thing then Maverick could be right up your street.  This years line up included sets from Richard Vincent, the first artist to be awarded the Bob Harris Emerging Artist Award; a melancholy mixture of country laced with blues.  The Rabble Chorus welcomed in a sunny Sunday morning with bright, energetic choral renditions that offered a different feel and sound to the festival.   For the full list of artists check out the 2016 line up here.

There is a good selection of food and drink, riverside spots, country walks, farm animals to see and places to dance.  The Moonshine bar is a must-visit.  Sip smooth  Michter’s American whiskey cocktails in the shadow of the riverside Willow, and enjoy acapella music from the nearby stage.  A special mention to Mr.Jones and his delicious pulled pork and beef brisket, if you see him at a festival near you be sure to pop by and taste his wares.

BGDX4647Maverick takes place in July and runs from the Friday evening to Sunday afternoon.  The campsite is spacious, peaceful and a short walk to the main festival. Facilities are accessible and showers available for £2 from 7-11am, but can be temperamental so take wet wipes just in case.

A seasoned glamper?  Tepee’s are available for hire on site, as are HappyDays RV vintage Airstream caravans situated 20 minutes down the lane.  We’ve yet to stay in one of these so when we do we’ll share our experience 🙂

Thank you @Mavfest for a great weekend, we’ll see you next year.

Tips:  Take sunscreen, wellies, a cagoule and be sure to see as many bands as you can.  Cowboy hats are available to buy on site and if you fancy, why not go dressed for the occasion, you’ll fit in just fine, we did 🙂
