Track Cycling Taster at Herne Hill Velodrome
2012 and 2013 have been great years for cycling, from the 2012 Olympic cycling events, two Brits – Bradley Wiggins and Chris Froome – winning the 2012 and 2013 Tour De France and this weekends Prudential London Ride which took place in London today. There are many cycling events I could refer to, however this blog entry is about Silver Fit’s up-coming events at the Herne Hill Velodrome.
On the 7th and 14th of August (9am-10am), Silver Fit, a registered charity aimed at encouraging wellbeing and fitness for seniors over 50, are holding a two part introduction to track cycling. The two sessions will be led by a top British Cycling accredited coach who will introduce you to the techniques, rules and strategy of the energetic world of track cycling.
Track cycling has been around since at least 1870. Wooden indoor tracks were built, consisting of two straights and slightly banked turns. Over the years, the tracks and bikes have modernised and the overall concept is still the same. Track cycling events consist of the Sprint and Endurance races.
If you’re a cyclist and this event sounds like something you’d enjoy, then go online and book yourself a place: www.silverfit.org.uk/tracktaster/
Bikes and safety equipment will be provided. Its open to all ages from 8+.
Cost: £12 Adult for both sessions, £4 Junior (16 yrs or younger) for both sessions.
Please note that both sessions have to be booked together.
