I was recently contacted by the lovely Lizzie at Frock Swappers who was keen to tell me all about their new recycling clothing initiative.  Aimed at women [and men if you wish] of all ages,  Frock Swappers is for those of us who are tired of looking at the same old clothes hanging up in the wardrobe, but wish for something more than bundling them into a plastic bag and trundling on down to the charity shop hoping they’ll go to a good home.  Don’t get me wrong, charity shop donating is a worthwhile cause.
But, if you’re anything like me, the offer to take your old, tight, loose, baggy, ‘that colour doesn’t suit me anymore’, ‘what on earth was I thinking when I bought that’ and ‘I look like my mum in these’ clothes, along to an event where you can swap and or donate selected pieces to others and meet new friends, whilst munching your way through a delectable selection of home-made cakes – then Frock Swappers is the event for you!  You may even find a gem or two, and as the saying goes, ‘one woman’s trash is another woman’s treasure’.
The first Frock Swap is in aid of Trekstock, the charity raising vital funds & awareness for research into cancers that affect young people, and will take place at The Effra Social ( on Saturday 13th July from 2-5pm and they’d love you to come along.
It’s just £2 to get in, there’s a home-made cake stall, but please, no swapping of knickers or pants allowed….
My nanna always used to say, ‘that’s a lovely frock you’re wearing darling’ and in my young, embarrassed response, I’d say or sometimes politely shout: ‘NAN, IT’S NOT A FROCK IT’S A DRESS’ – but now I wonder if she was right all along, FROCKS REALLY DO ROCK!
If you love the idea of the Swap but will be unable to make the first event, please do contact Lizzie to arrange a collection of your unwanted Frocks.
